Bob Baldock
April 30, 1937 – Oct 23, 2022
Beloved Berkeley Book and Radio Man
🟥 25 years at Moe’s on Telegraph
🟥 Founder of Black Oak Books
🟥 Event producer for KPFA
Bob lived a life in service of social justice, building Berkeley bookstores and working with KPFA Radio to elevate ideas and the important people behind them. Recently he published his autobiographical novel Wild Green Oranges, chronicling his time in Cuba as a member of Fidel Castro’s 26th of July Combat unit.
Sam Whiting at the SF Chronicle has published a lovely obituary: Bob Baldock, “unsung hero” of Bay Area literary scene who fought alongside Castro, dies at 85.
Bob’s life is also detailed in his Wikipedia page.
On this website you can peruse his paintings, including the Sky Series and African-American Portraits, as well as his events and posters for KPFA and Black Oak Books, past broadsides (such as Druid Press) and more.
